Moor House on the podium at National Swimming finals

A team of Moor House Swimmers secured a bronze medal in the Panathlon U18 National Finals at the London Aquatic Centre last month.

The challenge event, which last year involved over 2,000 competitors across the country, encourages swimmers and non-swimmers alike to participate in individual and team challenges, including relay races, a raft race and a treasure hunt.

Moor House, a specialist school and college for children and young people with speech and language difficulties, were looking to defend their title after qualifying as regional champions.

Laurence, Daniel, Eleanor, Archie, Freddy and Zara amassed an impressive 70.5 points to make the podium once again behind Whitefields School, Waltham Forest and winners Great Arley, from Lancashire.

Moor House Swimming Teacher Hayley Chilcott said:

Panathlon is amazing for us as a school because our opportunities to play competitive sport are limited.

The competitiveness is important, and the chance to take part against children of similar abilities is very precious.

It does wonders for the children’s self-confidence and inspires them to want to swim more, both in and out of school.

Moor House Principal Helen Middleton said:

The Panathlon Challenge events are always inclusive, fun occasions which our students really look forward to.

“We’re incredibly proud of our team for finishing on the podium once again but more importantly, I know it was wonderful, enjoyable experience for them all to compete at the London Aquatics Centre.
