OT Intervention Packages

Therapy Provision

All pupils at Moor House School will have had a comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessment prior to admission. Those pupils identified at this time to require Occupational Therapy intervention will have an individual Occupational Therapy programme drawn up.

Therapy provision is organised into three teams for each of the Key Stages (Key Stages 2,3 and 4). The Occupational Therapy Team provides intervention and advice to the whole school community. A named therapist will be assigned to each class team. 

According to their need, individual pupils on the Occupational Therapy caseload have

·         Direct, one to one input weekly or fortnightly  

·         KS2 pupils all receive weekly handwriting lessons run jointly by the Occupational Therapist and class teacher. KS3 pupils receive a Termly block of handwriting intervention as necessary

·         Paired and/or small group sessions

·        Integrated class support from an Occupational Therapist for practical subjects, like pottery, PE, Food Studies and DT

·         Additional class support from the Occupational Therapy Assistant

·         Jointly run lessons to deliver specialist Occupational Therapy programmes in the classroom

·         Integrated life skills training

·         Type to Learn 3 - touch typing programme co-ordinated and monitored by OT team

·         Joint Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy programmes to develop oromotor skills, such as the MORE approach

·         Indirect intervention via the provision of therapy programmes for use during Child Care time, at home or in the classroom

·         Advice to all staff and parents related to sensory processing, motor co-ordination and posture

·         Seating is individually tailored and heights of tables and chairs adjusted to individual needs

 

 

 

Curriculum Provision

 The Occupational Therapist plans regularly with the class team including Teacher, Speech and Language Therapist and Special Teaching Assistant to identify class and individual objectives. The Occupational Therapists provide class support in the following areas where necessary:

 

 

        ·         English lessons for handwriting - lessons planned and delivered jointly with teacher

·         Maths lessons for spatial perceptual skills

·         Practical lessons such as PE, Design Technology

 

The Occupational Therapists provide specialist programmes, which are delivered jointly with the teacher as necessary including:

 

·         Sensory Integration programmes, such as 'How Does your Engine Run?' The Alert Programme for Self Regulation, 'Tools for Teens' - Strategies to promote sensory processing

·         Specialist handwriting programmes run jointly by the Occupational Therapist and class team. For example Handwriting without Tears, Speed up!, Write from the Start - The Teodorescu Perceptuo-Motor programme

·         Specialist gross motor skill development programmes integrated into PE lessons and supported by the Occupational Therapist
