Moor House School

 Teaching: School Reporting Process

Reports and Annual Reviews

Throughout their time at Moor House, each child's progress is monitored and once a year becomes the subject of the statutory annual review, to which parents and a representative of the Local Education Authority are invited. Parents are also invited to make a written contribution and two weeks prior to the meeting they are sent documentation in preparation for the review. At the meeting, the child's current situation and needs are discussed and objectives for the following year are set. An annual review report for each child is produced and a copy is sent to the referring Local Education Authority and to the child's parents. The annual review following a pupil's fourteenth birthday includes a transition plan, when the pupil's future education and transition to adult life are carefully considered.

During the two terms when no annual review is held, parents will be invited to a meeting to discuss the progress their child has made during the term. Targets will also be reviewed and discussed.

Careful monitoring of each pupil's progress, and the annual review procedures, enable staff to identify those pupils who may no longer need the specialist provision available at Moor House School. The criteria for transfer prior to statutory school leaving age have been carefully devised to ensure that there is agreement that such a move is likely to be successful. For all pupils, parents are involved at every stage when determining future educational provision. A term's notice is required when transfer to another school is thought to be in the best interests of the child.

The curriculum at Moor House is such that pupils are able to transfer to their new schools with the minimum of disruption. This is facilitated by their having had access to as much of the National Curriculum as possible, during their time at Moor House School. If transfer is to be smooth, close liaison amongst all parties is essential prior to a move.

Parents may have access to their child's records at any mutually convenient time which should be prearranged by telephoning the Principal's PA. There would be a reasonable charge (to cover costs) for reproducing copies of any documents which parents may require.
