Residential Care: Duke of Edinburgh
The Duke of Edinburgh award operates in Moor House School to Bronze and Silver level. The award takes at least six months to achieve and involves achievement in four sections: expedition work, a skill, physical recreation and community service.
Moor House pupils enjoy the many facilities that the school offers and the support of staff in order to obtain the award. They also have the opportunity to join clubs and provide a service to the local community outside of school. Expeditions by foot are undertaken along the North and South Downs, the participants having been trained beforehand in map reading, camp craft and first aid. Each award is very much individual. Self-discipline, perseverance and self-motivation are encouraged throughout, with attainment and standards being set according to each pupil's ability.
