 A Specialist Speech and Language Therapy Assessment with Opportunities to be Observed in Class

Duration: 1 day

 

 

  • A full clinical assessment by a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to include:
    • Expressive language, including use of grammar and vocabulary
    • Receptive language, including understanding of grammar and vocabulary
    • Pragmatics/social use of language
    • Phonology/speech
    • Literacy - phonological awareness
    • Informal language assessment, including language sample and interview
    • Observation of Communication Skills - nonverbal and verbal.
  • Structured observation of communication skills in class and feedback from Specialist Teacher
  • Structured observation in dining room, playground (by School staff) and after school time - feedback from Residential Child Care Department
  • Maths assessment by the Deputy Principal of school
  • Literacy assessment by the Deputy Principal
  • Discussion with therapist based on Parental Questionnaire previously completed.
  • Clinical feedback session with parents, including an explanation of formal assessments and the predicted content of the assessment report
  • Multidisciplinary meeting of staff to discuss child's performance.
  • A comprehensive multidisciplinary detailed report including recommendations for speech and language therapy provision   (suitable for SEN Tribunal purposes)
