A Specialist Speech and Language Therapy Assessment with Opportunities to be Observed in Class
Duration: 1 day
A full clinical assessment by a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to include:
Expressive language, including use of grammar and vocabulary
Receptive language, including understanding of grammar and vocabulary
Pragmatics/social use of language
Phonology/speech
Literacy - phonological awareness
Informal language assessment, including language sample and interview
Observation of Communication Skills - nonverbal and verbal.
Structured observation of communication skills in class and feedback from Specialist Teacher
Structured observation in dining room, playground (by School staff) and after school time - feedback from Residential Child Care Department
Maths assessment by the Deputy Principal of school
Literacy assessment by the Deputy Principal
Discussion with therapist based on Parental Questionnaire previously completed.
Clinical feedback session with parents, including an explanation of formal assessments and the predicted content of the assessment report
Multidisciplinary meeting of staff to discuss child's performance.
A comprehensive multidisciplinary detailed report including recommendations for speech and language therapy provision
(suitable for SEN Tribunal
purposes)
