About our School: Liaison with Parents
Before a child is admitted to Moor House School, parents are required to sign a home/school agreement, which has been devised to provide all pupils with optimum and consistent support both at home and at school. An extremely important aspect of the school's work is the emphasis placed on the close liaison between staff and parents. Each parent is given a copy of our home-school agreement. This has three main objectives - to help parents understand in more detail the child's difficulties, to give advice on how parents can help the child with these difficulties, and to provide opportunities for the staff to learn more about the child. Teachers and therapists are available to see parents after school each half term and at home weekends. Every parent is given the opportunity to meet formally with staff on two occasions other than the annual review during the course of the academic year. Naturally, informal talks between parents and staff take place whenever pupils are collected from, or returned to, school.
Occasionally the Principal arranges a more formal meeting, at which she meets with school staff and parents to discuss some matter of particular importance or concern. The Principal herself is always happy to meet with parents. At busy times such as the first and last day of term, a previous appointment made with her Personal Assistant is always helpful, but she is normally available after 2.30pm when parents are collecting their children from school on a Friday. A parents' newsletter is posted on the website at regular intervals to apprise parents of past and forthcoming events.
When a pupil leaves Moor House School, either to transfer to another school, or to go on to further education and training, parents are invited to a final meeting with staff. Verbal reports are given, last-minute questions asked and written reports (which are sent to the transfer school or college) are reviewed. We are always willing to provide advice to parents and professionals to facilitate the process of transferring to a new educational placement.
