 The Lion King Outing

On 12th March 2008, all the students from Key Stages 2 and 3 (plus one lucky student from Key Stage 4) went on a visit to see The Lion King stage show at the Lyceum Theatre in London, accompanied by their class teams.

While some students had already seen The Lion King on video or DVD, there are many differences between the animated movie and the London stage production. As such, many classes had prepared for the visit by finding out about the music, the dancing, the acting and the puppetry that had to be created specially for the stage show. Even so, it was still an incredible sight for all to behold from the impressive Circle of Life opening scene, through to the death of Mufasa, then Simbas emotional journey to find himself, and finally the inevitable battle and happy ending!

The students were clearly very glad to have the opportunity to experience live theatre at a big London show, a first for many of them. The students enjoyed themselves thoroughly, as there is so much to see, hear and wonder at that there really is something for everyone. The ice-creams served during the interval, and the programmes, were also greatly appreciated.

The costs for this amazing visit and the transport by coach to London and back were all paid for by the kind people at Happy Days, a charity that arranges experiences such as this for children who might otherwise go without. Our warmest thanks are extended to the wonderful people at Happy Days and also to their generous benefactors, as this visit would not have been possible without their assistance.
