3H Assembly about Buddhism

On Wednesday 13th May assembly was presented by Mrs. Lee with support from Class 3H, on the topic of Buddhism.
The class acted out the story of Prince Siddhartha Gautama. The Prince had lived in a palace, having anything he wanted. However he had been shielded by his father from knowing about human suffering. When he was a young man he left his palace in order to meet the people in his land, and on his journey he found an old man, a sick person and a dead person.
The Prince was sad to see these things. He gave up his rich life of luxury and instead tried to live a life without any pleasures, but this did not help him understand the problems of the world or how to stop human suffering.
Eventually the Prince discovered what is called 'The Middle Way' - a way of living that is in between having too much and having too little. At the moment he understood this he reached what is called 'Enlightenment' - understanding.
From this time on he was known as the Buddha which means 'The Enlightened One'.
All the class took part, performing in front of the whole school and many members of staff. Well done to Class 3H and thank you to Mrs. Lee (and Mrs. Henson) for organising this interesting and fun assembly.
