3H Class Assembly
|
On Wednesday 30th January, the Year 7s in Class 3H presented an assembly to the entire school about Chinese New Year.
The Chinese legend is that twelve animals were arguing about who the new year should be named after. Eventually their arguing disturbed the Chinese Gods, who suggested that the animals should have a race from one side of a river to the other. The new year would be named after the winner of the race. The rat ended up winning the race by riding on the back of the ox for most of the way, and the new year was named after him. The next year was named after the ox, as it had come second, and so on.
The narrators, Angus and Michael, got the assembly off to an excellent start by speaking loudly and very clearly. Steven was really brave and put loads of energy into his role as the monkey, and made for a very slippery and slithery snake with a lovely expressive speaking voice. Matthew B. did really well as the ox that nearly won, and also as a slow-coach pig! Kate showed good acting skills and always remembered to look towards the audience, and spoke her lines well too. Tom acted the part of a dangerous tiger convincingly, and also helped other students remember where they had to be, and when to say their lines. Will developed a giant roar as the fierce dragon and then led the dragon dance, while Matthew H. stole the show as the clever rat with a cunning plan.
All of 3H were congratulated by Mrs. Dobbie and Mr. Bathe for performing the assembly so well in front of the school, and for learning their lines off by heart. No mean feat for the second youngest year group!
Have a look at the pictures below from the 3H assembly to find out more.
Thanks go to Miss Smith (SLT) for agreeing to appear as the Chinese Gods, and Miss Bull (STA) for the brilliant dragon design, in addition to the other numerous ways in which they helped ensure that the assembly was a success.
